Dishwasher Have A Foul Odor? Here’s What To Do

Is your dishwasher giving off a foul odor? The good news is that it’s often an easy fix with just a few simple steps!

  • Step 1 – Empty the dishwasher of all dishes, utensils, etc.
  • Step 2 – Clean the drain filter, the spray arm and the inside of the dishwasher with soapy water. Make sure to remove or wipe down any soap suds.
  • Step 3 – Fill a bowl with 1 cup of distilled white vinegar, place in top rack and run dishwasher cycle.
  • Step 4 – When the cycle is complete, pour a cup of baking soda into the bottom of the dishwasher and run a second dishwasher cycle.

Tips for Helping Prevent Dishwasher Odors

  • Scrape food off all dishes and give them a light rinse before loading into the dishwasher.
  • While the dishwasher is running, avoid using any other appliances that use hot water, including the sink.
  • Wipe down the rubber door gasket of any food particles, standing water or any built up muck
  • Periodically clean the drain filter
