Quick Reference: How To Unclog Sink

Is your sink clogged or draining slowly? Most clogs can easily be taken care of with a quick fix in the p-trap pipe.

What is a p-trap? The p-trap is the u-shaped pipe underneath your sink. This trap keeps sewer gases from entering your home.

How to unclog your sink:

Step 1. Find the p-trap pipe underneath your sink, and place a bucket or tupperware directly under it.

Step 2. Loosen the 2 knobs on both sides of the p-trap. Unscrew the top knob and then the bottom.

Step 3. Take the whole trap out and dump the water and muck that’s inside into the bucket. If you see something stuck in the pipe, fish that out too.

Step 4. Now, put the p-trap back on. Be sure to screw the knobs tightly on both sides.

Step 5. Test your line by running water and making sure there are no leaks underneath the sink!

If you want to try another route, mix ½ cup baking soda & ½ cup white vinegar and then pour it down your drain. Wait 10 minutes and flush with hot water. This will help loosen up what’s in your sink and may also fix your problem! You can also purchase a drain cleaner to achieve the same result.
